Medicare in Vancouver
Clark County has a broad Advantage menu shaped by its place in the Portland metro. PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center, Legacy Salmon Creek and the Vancouver Clinic anchor care on the Washington side; Kaiser Permanente Northwest — the Oregon-based Kaiser region — serves Clark and Cowlitz counties with its own plans and clinics; and many residents see specialists at OHSU or Legacy in Portland. Whether a given plan’s network crosses the river is the first thing we check.
Washington has no income tax and Oregon has no sales tax, which is why so many people retire to Vancouver and shop across the bridge; the Medicare version of that arbitrage is a Medigap policy, which works identically in both states without a network. Clark County veterans use the Vancouver campus of the VA Portland Health Care System.
