Medicare in Spokane
Spokane County has the deepest Medicare menu east of the Cascades and one of the clearest system splits in the state. Providence runs Sacred Heart and Holy Family; MultiCare runs Deaconess, Valley and the Rockwood Clinic; Kaiser Permanente Washington sells plans built on its own Spokane medical offices. Each contracts with some Advantage plans and not others, so a $0-premium plan that includes your Rockwood primary-care doctor may not include the Sacred Heart cardiologist she refers you to.
Spokane also serves patients from Idaho, Montana and the whole northeast corner of the state, many of whom keep Original Medicare with a Medigap policy precisely because it works at every hospital in the region without a network. Veterans use Mann-Grandstaff, which serves more than 30,000 veterans a year, and Fairchild’s retirees have TRICARE For Life; see our Fairchild page.
