Medicare in the region
Central Washington is hub-and-spoke country. Yakima has MultiCare Yakima Memorial, Astria’s hospitals in the lower valley and the Farm Workers Clinic network; Wenatchee has Confluence Health, whose Central Washington Hospital and Wenatchee Valley Clinic serve everything from Leavenworth to the Okanogan. Advantage menus are moderate in Yakima and Chelan counties and thin beyond them, and a network that omits the one system in reach is not a bargain at any premium.
Grant, Adams, Kittitas and Okanogan counties lean on Samaritan in Moses Lake, Kittitas Valley Healthcare in Ellensburg and the hospital districts in Omak, Brewster, Ephrata, Quincy and Othello, with Spokane, Wenatchee or Seattle for the rest. That is why so many people out here keep Original Medicare with a Medigap policy, which works on both sides of the passes without a network question.
What to watch: Yakima and Wenatchee anchor the region, and Confluence Health in particular is the only large system for a very wide area; whether it is in a given Advantage plan’s network settles the choice for most of Chelan, Douglas and Okanogan counties. Yakima County also has a large population with both Medicare and Apple Health, so Dual Special Needs Plans matter more here than in most of the state.
