Spokane & the Inland Northwest: what shapes the choice here

Spokane County has the deepest Medicare menu east of the Cascades and a care map that is easy to get wrong: Providence Sacred Heart and Holy Family on one side, MultiCare Deaconess, Valley and Rockwood on the other, Kaiser’s own clinics as a third path. The first question is which system your doctors belong to, because a $0-premium plan built on one may leave the other out.

North of the city the map changes. Stevens, Pend Oreille, Ferry and Lincoln counties rely on small hospitals in Colville, Chewelah, Newport, Republic and Davenport, and specialty care means Spokane. Advantage menus there are short, and Original Medicare with a Medigap policy — which covers Sacred Heart and Deaconess alike without a network — is often the practical answer.

Local plans to know: Spokane’s care is split between Providence and MultiCare, which contract with different Advantage plans, and Kaiser Permanente Washington sells plans built on its Spokane clinics. Fairchild Air Force Base adds a TRICARE For Life community and the Mann-Grandstaff VA serves more than 30,000 veterans a year.

Counties: Spokane, Stevens, Pend Oreille, Ferry, Lincoln.

Questions from the Inland Northwest

Frequently asked questions

Which Medicare plans are available in Spokane?

Spokane County typically offers a broad Medicare Advantage menu, every Medigap carrier in Washington, and the full Part D lineup. Stevens, Pend Oreille, Ferry and Lincoln counties have fewer Advantage plans. We compare what is sold at your address.

Is Sacred Heart or Deaconess in my plan’s network?

Providence and MultiCare each contract with some Advantage plans and not others, and the lists change every fall. A Medigap policy with Original Medicare covers both. We confirm your doctors before you enroll.

How much does your help cost?

Nothing. Independent agents are paid by the carriers when you enroll, so comparing plans and reviewing your coverage each year is free to you.
