The old sugar town in the middle of Leeward Oahu has the county’s full plan menu, Pali Momi and Queen’s West Oahu ten minutes in either direction, and one of the largest kupuna populations on the island.
What to know before you compare plans in Honolulu County
Waipahu’s Medicare menu is Honolulu County’s: Kaiser Permanente, HMSA and national-carrier Advantage plans, every Medigap company licensed in Hawaii and the full Part D lineup. Hospital care runs to Pali Momi in Aiea or Queen’s West Oahu in Ewa Beach through HMSA and the national plans, or to Moanalua for Kaiser members. Many households here have three generations under one roof, and a lot of the questions we get come from adult children helping a parent.
We compare what is sold at your ZIP code, confirm your doctors and pharmacy, and check whether a Medicare Savings Program through Med-QUEST could pay the Part B premium, which is a real possibility for many Waipahu kupuna.

Your options
Which kind of plan fits you in Waipahu?
Medicare Advantage
All-in-one Part C plans, often $0 premium, that use a local network — in Hawaii that usually means choosing between Kaiser, HMSA and a few national carriers, island by island.
Medigap pairs with Original Medicare and lets you see any provider that accepts Medicare — Queen’s, Straub, Hilo Benioff, or a specialist on the mainland.
Honolulu County typically offers Medicare Advantage plans from Kaiser Permanente, HMSA and national carriers, every Medigap company licensed in Hawaii, and the full Part D lineup, set by county and changing each plan year.
Can Med-QUEST help pay my parent’s Part B premium?
Possibly. Hawaii’s Medicare Savings Programs (QMB, SLMB, QI), run by Med-QUEST, pay the Part B premium for people with limited income and resources, and QMB also covers Medicare’s deductibles and copays. Apply at mybenefits.hawaii.gov or 1-800-316-8005; see our Med-QUEST page.
How much does your help cost?
Nothing. Independent agents are paid by the carriers when you enroll, so comparing plans and reviewing your coverage each year is free to you.
