Ewa Beach and Ewa Villages are home to Queen’s West Oahu and to thousands of Pearl Harbor and Hickam retirees — two facts that shape the Medicare choice here more than any premium.
What to know before you compare plans in Honolulu County
Ewa has Honolulu County’s full Medicare menu and its own hospital: The Queen’s Medical Center – West Oahu, which contracts through HMSA Akamai Advantage and the national carriers and which any Medigap policy covers. Kaiser members on this side use Kaiser’s West Oahu clinics and Moanalua Medical Center for hospital care.
A large share of Ewa families are military retirees with TRICARE For Life, which pays after Medicare and carries creditable drug coverage; for them a Medigap policy and a Part D plan are usually unnecessary, and the only real question is whether an MA-only Advantage plan’s dental and vision extras are worth having. Our Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam page walks through it.

When you can enroll
Turning 65? Your Initial Enrollment Period is the 7 months around your birthday. Already on Medicare? The Annual Election Period is Oct 15–Dec 7, and Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment runs Jan 1–Mar 31. Moving to another island or losing a plan opens a Special Enrollment Period.
Your options
Which kind of plan fits you in Ewa Beach?
Medicare Advantage
All-in-one Part C plans, often $0 premium, that use a local network — in Hawaii that usually means choosing between Kaiser, HMSA and a few national carriers, island by island.
Medigap pairs with Original Medicare and lets you see any provider that accepts Medicare — Queen’s, Straub, Hilo Benioff, or a specialist on the mainland.
Honolulu County typically offers Medicare Advantage plans from Kaiser Permanente, HMSA and national carriers, every Medigap company licensed in Hawaii, and the full Part D lineup, set by county and changing each plan year.
I have TRICARE For Life. Do I need a Medigap policy or Part D?
Usually neither. TFL pays secondary to Medicare and its pharmacy is creditable drug coverage. An MA-only Advantage plan can add dental or vision without duplicating your drug benefit. See our Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam page.
How much does your help cost?
Nothing. Independent agents are paid by the carriers when you enroll, so comparing plans and reviewing your coverage each year is free to you.
