Medicare in Lahaina & West Maui

What to know before you compare plans in Maui County

Lahaina, Kaanapali, Napili and Kapalua have Maui County’s Medicare menu: Kaiser Permanente Senior Advantage on the island of Maui, HMSA’s neighbor island Akamai Advantage plans, some national carriers, every Medigap company licensed in Hawaii and the full Part D lineup. The August 8, 2023 fire destroyed Kaiser’s Lahaina clinic; Kaiser and Maui Health have been seeing West Maui patients at a temporary modular clinic at the Hyatt Regency in Kaanapali since March 2024, and in July 2026 announced a site on Honoapiilani Highway for a permanent Lahaina clinic. Maui Memorial in Wailuku remains the hospital.

The fire also triggered a federal public health emergency, and CMS opened a Special Enrollment Period for people affected by it. If your coverage, your address or your pharmacy changed because of the fire and something still is not right, tell us; disaster-related enrollment relief has rules of its own, and we walk through them.

Frequently asked questions

Which Medicare plans are available in Lahaina?

Maui County typically offers Medicare Advantage plans from Kaiser Permanente (island of Maui), HMSA’s neighbor island plans and some national carriers, every Medigap company licensed in Hawaii, and the full Part D lineup, changing each plan year.

The fire changed where I live and where I get care. Can I still change plans?

A federally declared disaster or emergency opens a Medicare Special Enrollment Period for people who missed a normal enrollment window because of it, and moving your permanent residence opens one of its own. The details depend on your dates; call and we will sort out which window applies.

How much does your help cost?

Nothing. Independent agents are paid by the carriers when you enroll, so comparing plans and reviewing your coverage each year is free to you.
