East & Clovis–Portales: what shapes the choice here
Eastern New Mexico shares a time zone with Santa Fe and a referral pattern with West Texas. Plains Regional Medical Center in Clovis, part of the Presbyterian system, and Roosevelt General Hospital in Portales handle most of the region’s care; Lubbock and Amarillo are the specialty cities, and De Baca County is an hour from either hospital. That geography is why the plan-type question matters more here than the premium.
Cannon Air Force Base adds a large retiree community with TRICARE For Life, for whom the Medicare decision is mostly about Part B timing and whether an MA-only plan’s dental and vision extras are worth having. Our Cannon AFB page walks through it, and our Texas section covers Lubbock and Amarillo from the other side.
What to watch: Clovis’s hospital belongs to Presbyterian, and Presbyterian Health Plan is leaving most of the Advantage market for 2027, so plan networks here are being redrawn this fall. Cannon retirees carry TRICARE For Life, which usually makes a Medigap policy and a Part D plan unnecessary. For anything beyond the regional hospitals, the road runs east into Texas.
Counties: Curry, Roosevelt, De Baca.
