McKinley County offers a moderate Advantage menu, every Medigap carrier in New Mexico and the full Part D lineup. Rehoboth McKinley Christian Health Care Services serves the city and the surrounding Navajo and Zuni communities, and Gallup Indian Medical Center, an IHS hospital, serves eligible tribal members; for specialty care the road runs to Albuquerque or Flagstaff.
Medicare and the IHS fit together better than most people assume: IHS is not insurance, its referral program is the payer of last resort, and Medicare pays IHS and tribal facilities for covered care and for the referrals they cannot fund.
