Bluffton and Sun City Hilton Head are the fastest-growing retirement addresses in South Carolina, with the Novant hospitals on Hilton Head and in Hardeeville, Beaufort Memorial, and Savannah across the river.
What to know before you compare plans in Beaufort County
Beaufort and Jasper counties offer broad Advantage menus, every Medigap carrier in South Carolina and the full Part D lineup. The nearest hospitals are Novant Health Hilton Head Medical Center and Novant Health Coastal Carolina in Hardeeville, both acquired from Tenet in 2024, plus Beaufort Memorial; Savannah’s systems are twenty minutes away and may or may not be in a South Carolina plan’s network.
Sun City Hilton Head straddles the Beaufort–Jasper county line, and the county decides the menu, so two neighbors can have different plan lists. Almost all of them arrived already on Medicare, and the move opened the windows our moving guide describes. We compare what is sold at your address with your doctors in hand.

When you can enroll
Turning 65? Your Initial Enrollment Period is the 7 months around your birthday. Already on Medicare? The Annual Election Period is Oct 15–Dec 7, and Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment runs Jan 1–Mar 31. Moving to South Carolina, losing a plan, or a FEMA hurricane declaration each open a Special Enrollment Period.
Your options
Which kind of plan fits you in Bluffton?
Medicare Advantage
All-in-one Part C plans, often $0 premium, that use a local network — so your providers, your county and your prescriptions matter.
Medigap pairs with Original Medicare and lets you see any provider nationwide that accepts Medicare — MUSC, Prisma, Duke or Emory across the line, or the hospital in your county seat.
Which Medicare plans are available in Bluffton and Sun City Hilton Head?
Beaufort and Jasper counties each offer a broad Medicare Advantage menu, every Medigap carrier in South Carolina, and the full Part D lineup. Sun City spans both counties, and the county sets the menu; we compare what is offered at your exact address.
I just moved to Sun City from another state. What happens to my plan?
A permanent move gives you a Special Enrollment Period to pick a plan sold in your new county, and leaving a Medicare Advantage plan because you moved out of its service area is a federal guaranteed-issue event: you can buy certain Medigap plans without health questions, generally within 63 days of the old coverage ending. South Carolina has no birthday rule afterward, so decide inside the window.
How much does your help cost?
Nothing. Independent agents are paid by the carriers when you enroll, so comparing plans and reviewing your coverage each year is free to you.
