Medicare in the region
Southwest Indiana is a two-system market at its center — Deaconess and Ascension St. Vincent in Evansville, contracting with different Advantage carriers — and a one-hospital-per-county market everywhere else: Good Samaritan in Vincennes, Deaconess Memorial in Jasper, and the small hospitals along the river. Vanderburgh and Warrick counties have a moderate Advantage menu; the rural counties have fewer plans and longer drives.
Veterans in the Pocket are served by the Evansville VA Health Care Center, part of the Marion, Illinois VA, with a clinic in Vincennes; how that coordinates with Medicare is on our Veterans page.
Local wrinkle: Evansville’s systems serve a three-state region, and plenty of Pocket residents see doctors in Owensboro or Henderson, Kentucky. On an Advantage plan that is a network question; on a Medigap policy it is not. Naval Support Activity Crane, in Martin County, gives the region a small military-retiree community with TRICARE For Life.

The Annual Election Period is Oct 15–Dec 7, and Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment runs Jan 1–Mar 31. Already have a Medigap policy?
