Medicare in the region
Northeast Florida’s Medicare question often starts with Mayo. The Jacksonville campus takes Original Medicare, and therefore any Medigap policy, but contracts selectively with Advantage plans; Baptist, UF Health and Ascension St. Vincent’s each contract separately again. St. Johns County, the fastest-growing in Florida, has a deep menu; Putnam and Baker have thin ones.

What to watch: Mayo Clinic Jacksonville accepts Original Medicare and contracts with only some Advantage plans, which is why so many First Coast retirees keep a Medigap policy. NAS Jacksonville and Naval Station Mayport give the region a large TRICARE For Life population.

The Annual Election Period is Oct 15–Dec 7, and Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment runs Jan 1–Mar 31.
